The Benefits of Forged Steel Construction

Forged steel construction provides more strength and durability for heavy-duty applications. Unlike cast iron alternatives, forged steel features higher tensile strength, so the vise can withstand intense pressure without bending or breaking.

How Strong Is Your Bench Vise?

With a clamping force of up to 9,900 lb, our mechanics vice provides more than enough grip to hold your workpieces securely in place. Whether you're working on automotive repairs or large metalworking projects, this vise is built to deliver top-tier performance every time.

What Sizes Does Your Mechanics Bench Vise Come In?

Our heavy-duty bench vise comes in three different sizes designed to handle tasks with precision and power:

  • 5" vise: This size is ideal for smaller projects or when space is limited. It features a 5" jaw width, a 6" jaw opening, has a throat depth of 83mm (3.27"), and delivers a clamping force of 7,700 lb. Despite its compact size, this lightweight vise provides a firm grip for detailed work or less demanding tasks. Weighing 28 lb, it's also easy to maneuver and install on your workbench.
  • 6" vise: The 6" vise is a versatile option for more demanding jobs. With a jaw width of 6", a throat depth of 92mm (3.62"), and an 8" jaw opening, it offers a powerful clamping force of 8,800 pounds. It weighs 42 lb, delivering the heft and stability needed for medium to heavy-duty tasks.
  • 7" vise: For the most heavy-duty jobs, the 7" vise is your go-to choice. With a jaw width of 7", a 120mm (4.72") throat depth, and a generous 9" jaw opening, it provides a clamping force of 9,900 lb—perfect for larger workpieces or industrial-level tasks. Weighing in at 57 lb, this heavy-duty vise offers maximum durability and stability.

How Do I Install Your Vise?

Setting up your bench vise is straightforward. With the right steps, you’ll have it mounted in no time. Here’s how to do it:

  • Pick the spot: Choose a location on your workbench where you’ll have enough space to work around the vise. Make sure it’s in a spot that’s convenient for your projects.
  • Gather your tools: You’ll need a drill, a 3/8" drill bit, and a wrench to get started. Make sure you have the 3/8"-16 thread bolts, washers, lock washers, and nuts that come with the vise.
  • Mark the drill holes: Position the vise on your workbench and use a pencil or marker to outline the spots where you’ll need to drill holes for the bolts.
  • Drill the holes: Using your 3/8" drill bit, drill straight into the marked points. Make sure the holes are aligned properly to avoid any issues when attaching the vise.
  • Insert the bolts: Place the vise over the drilled holes and insert the bolts through them. Under the workbench, add the washers and lock washers, and then screw on the nuts.
  • Tighten everything down: Use your wrench to tighten the nuts until the vise is firmly secured to the workbench. You want it to be stable and not wobble when in use.
  • Check the stability: Before you start using the vise, give it a few tugs and twists to make sure everything is solid. If it feels secure, you’re good to go.

Which Jaws Should I Use With Your Mechanics Vise?

The jaw type you should choose depends on what kind of project you're working on. Here's a quick guide to help you decide:

  • Rubber jaws: If you're working with delicate materials such as wood, plastic, or softer metals, rubber jaws are your go-to. They provide solid gripping power without leaving marks, for when you need to be gentle but still need a firm hold. Ideal for hobbyists or woodworkers who want to protect their materials while keeping them securely in place.
  • Serrated jaws: These are your heavy-duty option. If you're working with tougher materials such as metal, serrated jaws give you extra grip and prevent slipping.
  • Pipe jaws: Got a round object to clamp, such as a pipe or tube? Pipe jaws are exactly what you need. They grip cylindrical materials securely for plumbing and piping projects.

How Do I Adjust the Clamping Force on Your Mechanics Vise?

To increase the clamping power, just turn the main screw clockwise. This tightens the grip, so your material stays put. If you need a lighter hold, turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen it. It’s all about finding the right balance for the project you’re working on.

If you’re working with something delicate, you might want to use a softer jaw material, such as rubber jaws, or make smaller adjustments to avoid material damage. For tougher jobs, crank it up to really lock things down. The precision screw mechanism makes fine-tuning the clamping pressure simple, so you can get the right amount of grip for any task.

Great Vise

I ordered the vise for my shed. Small projects, drilling, sharpening mower blades, amung other tasks. My backgroud is retired military as an engineer working with large marine diesel propulsion systems for forty years. The vise arrived relatively fast, with e-mail notifications on the progress of the order and shipping. Opening the box, the vise was inside a box, inside a box which was inside a box. Well packaged, with all hardware included to properly anchor down the vise to my work bench. All I needed to do was to find the ideal location and drill the three holes to secure the vise to the bench. A 3/8" bit for the hardware. Olsa already provided the 3/8"-16 thread - 2-1/2" bolts, washers, lock washers and nuts. I also purchased the soft-jaw accessory jaws which are magnetic and work well with the vise. Easy to remove, install and store. This vise a;so includes an integrated pipe jaw set below the main jaw to secure piping projects securely. I fully appreciate the time Olsa has taken to provide a high quality vise. Though pricey, I say, the vise for any workbench should only have to be purchased once. Yes, I could have purchased a garbage vise at a local big box store, like the one in I have a work, that is constantly failing while I try to work on projects, but I have learned, researching thoroughly the device you need in the garage or shed as in my case, proves that there are companies still have pride in their products. Bravo OLSA, Job well done, and thank you for the quality vise. I have attached two photographs of the vise below. I hope this review helps those among us who enjoy a great piece of hardware.
