When you have a lighting issue on your trailer, be it a fuse that keeps blowing or lights that flicker or stop working intermittently, it can be very difficult to find the source of the issue. Intermittent faults are tricky to troubleshoot when the issue comes and goes at random. You may suspect a short or a bad connection is causing the issue, but pinpointing the location of the problem can be challenging with wires routed through so many inaccessible areas of a trailer. That's where the Olsa Tools Trailer Wiring Wiggle Tester comes in!
Olsa Tools’ 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Wiggle Tester works by detecting small changes in the trailer’s lighting circuit: normally the resistance in the lighting circuit should be perfectly unchanged, but if there is a bad connection or an exposed wire occasionally getting shorted, the "wiggle tester" will detect it. Simply wiggle the wires along the trailer and when you wiggle an area near a bad connection or a short, the change in resistance will cause the tester to beep, helping you to pinpoint your issue so you can repair the problem.
Note: There is no separate circuit for brake lights as braking is indicated by turning on both Left and Right turn signal lights simultaneously.
Note: The trailer lighting will not illuminate while using the tester. To prevent any further damage, the tester provides only a small voltage, similar to a resistance tester on a multimeter, which is enough to detect a problem, but not enough to illuminate the lights.

If you’re one of those professionals looking to keep things running like a well-oiled machine (literally!), we’ve got you. We will explore five lubricants common to any mechanic’s shop that will ensure you choose the right lubricant every time.
When referring to automotive lubricants, motor oil is probably the first type that pops into your mind. This is the unsung hero of most vehicle engines. In a nutshell, its convenience reduces friction between moving parts and prevents excessive wear. But it’s more interesting than it seems! The oil is perfectly formulated to withstand the high demands of an internal combustion engine. Motor oils come in a variety of viscosities and formulations to suit different engines and weather conditions. It’s best to choose the viscosity (denoted with a code such as 5W-20) that is recommended by the vehicle’s manufacturer, and look for an oil with an API (American Petroleum Institute) certified seal.
We can say that grease is a bearing’s best friend. It's thicker than motor oil and sticks around for long periods of time, delivering extra staying power to bearings, moving components and joints. This tacky feature protects against water and contaminants, keeping your parts in good working order. Remember, when you need things to stay put and running, reach for the grease gun!
We’ve all had nuts and bolts that refuse to budge, and that's where penetrating oil shines. This particular type of lubricant is designed to creep into tight spaces to help overcome rust and corrosion. Spray it on stubborn nuts and bolts, give it a little time to work its charm, and watch the magic occur! If for some reason you’ve run out of penetrating oil, the Olsa Tools bolt extractor wrench set is here to save the day.
This substance is like the Swiss Army Knife of automotive lubricants with a versatility that makes it ideal for a complete range of applications including door hinges, garage door openers, and more. It’s water resistant and provides long-lasting lubrication. This is your go-to option for the household and workshop alike, so you’ll definitely want to keep it around. White lithium grease is great for high stress and higher temperature situations than silicone grease.
Have you ever wondered how to keep rubber components like seals and gaskets in tip-top shape? Silicone lubricant is the answer! Its components are made to effectively prevent cracking and drying out, ensuring parts remain flexible and leak-free. Plus, it’s excellent for reducing friction in plastic parts too. Whereas lithium grease is petroleum based and can cause plastics and rubber to break down, silicone grease is safe to use on most rubber and plastics. However, it is not suited for high stress or high temperature applications, unless you get a silicone grease that is specially-formulated for those scenarios.
Dielectric grease is a type of silicone grease that is also safe to use around plastic connectors and rubber seals. However, it is specifically formulated to be non-conductive, which makes it great for insulating electrical connectors to keep out dust and moisture to prevent corrosion.
When it comes to locks and latchets, graphite lubricant is a hero in disguise. Unlike oil-based lubricants for automotive applications, graphite won't attract dust and grime, making it ideal for keeping your locks smooth and functional. A little dusting of graphite can work wonders, so you'll never feel locked out again!
Now you’re armed with the knowledge to tackle those creaks, squeaks and stubborn nuts like a pro. As a professional in the industry, staying on top of all the top-quality automotive lubricants and tools not only helps to enhance your services but also shows commitment to using the right tools for the job. Embrace the power of proper lubrication and elevate your automotive repairs to a new level of performance and longevity. Remember, always read the labels, follow manufacturers’ recommendations, and store lubricants in a fresh and dry place.
Imagine you’re in the middle of an intensive repair task, and your handy wrenches save the day once again. Afterward, you’re most likely to toss them back into the toolbox without a second thought. But the truth is that the best practice is giving them a gentle wipe after each use to remove any remaining dirt and grime. And to show them some extra love, coating the working end with a thin coat of multi-purpose lubricant can help prevent rust! Trust us, they’ll thank you with many years of trustful service. Just be sure to follow the manufacturer’s specifications for proper care and maintenance.
The workplace can sometimes look like a tornado just swept through it, but for the sake of longevity, let’s change that! Say hello to innovative arrangement solutions with our collection of tool organizers. Our entire organizational universe is suited for your most-used tool sets: socket organizers, wrench organizers, screwdriver rails, and more! When investing in professional-quality organizers, you create a secure spot for every tool which prevents them from clinking and clanking around, thereby reducing nicks and scratches. Remember that a tidy workshop equals long-lasting tools!
When the hot summer days arrive, or when you’re working in the garage under the scorching sun, your tools feel that too! Protecting them from heat is crucial if you want to keep them nice and durable, especially tools with plastic or rubber components. Avoid leaving them out in the sun, inside a hot vehicle, or exposing them to extreme temperature changes. While the harm might not be instant, with time, UV exposure and heat will cause some materials to fade and break down.
On the other hand, while metal tools might not get affected, the sun can heat them up to high temperatures and cause burns and damage when in contact with the skin, so ensure to keep them away from extreme heat sources, especially if they contain digital components like these digital calipers. A cool, dry place is like a spa retreat for tools, keeping them in perfect shape.
Anyone who works in the industry has their fair share of modified tools—for example, grinding a wrench to fit in a tight spot. This might seem the best instant option for when you need to get rid of a bolt located at a narrow tight spot and you need to do it quickly. But many specialty tools have been coming out in recent years which are fit to face specific challenges of modern automotive maintenance, like the Olsa Tools Slim Profile Wrench Set. Now you don’t have to force a wrench to do a job it wasn’t built for and you can keep it in good condition for future tasks.
Using the right tool for the job will prevent unnecessary wear and tear, leaving you with tools that are always ready for the next challenge.
Each tool in your arsenal was designed for a purpose, so ensure to respect their limitations and use them for their intended purpose.
Even professional-grade tools like ours need a little check-up every now and then. Give them a routine inspection to catch any potential issues early on. Are handles still firm? Are ratchets in need of lubrication? Don’t forget to check the accuracy of your torque wrenches at least annually, and recalibrate if necessary. A quick checkup will keep them in tip-top condition, preventing any surprises and headaches during critical repairs. It’s like giving tools a well-deserved spa day but without the cucumbers on the eyes.
So there you have it, five valuable tips to increase the longevity of your tools. With these tips you’ll be well on your way to maximizing the longevity of your tools. Remember, when you buy professional-grade tools, show them love, store them like a pro, keep them cool, use them right, and give them regular tune-ups, they’ll become the stuff of legend and be passed down for generations.

Digital calipers are measurement tools that use a linear encoder to quantify the distance of small objects. The tool displays the measurement on an LCD screen which makes for precise measurements and stops the need for error-prone manual interpretation of a scale. It is battery-operated and comes with a convenient thumbwheel that is made to slide jaws forward or backward to achieve the desired measurement.
Do you know the difference between resolution, accuracy, and precision? These are all separate metrics that need to be considered when choosing a quality measuring tool.
Resolution simply refers to the number of decimal places that the tool can display. Budget calipers might only report to 0.01” or 0.1 mm with higher quality ones reporting measurements to the nearest 0.0005” or 0.01 mm.
Accuracy is how closely the calipers’ measurements are guaranteed to conform to international measurement standards. Accuracy is specified as a tolerance such as ±0.0010” or ±0.02mm. The smaller the number, the better the accuracy and the closure your measurement will match the true size. This number is of more importance than resolution because even if you had “high resolution” calipers that reported ten decimal places, if they were only accurate to two decimal places, you could only trust the first two decimal places of your measurement.
Precision is synonymous with repeatability and is one of the most important metrics for identifying the quality of a tool. Have you ever had a measuring instrument like a speedometer that always showed 5 mph below your actual speed or a scale that always reported 10 lbs more than your actual weight? This is an example of a repeatable measurement, but not an accurate one. High-quality tools are built to exact tolerances to provide precise (repeatable) measurements like our digital calipers with ±0.0005” (±0.01mm) precision. When you have a tool that is providing consistent measurements, that indicates that it is a high-quality tool. If measurements are consistent but inaccurate, usually it means that you have a precision tool that just needs to be recalibrated.
To summarize, resolution tells you the number of digits, accuracy tells you how well the tool is calibrated, and precision refers to repeatability which indicates the build quality of the tool.
To deliver more accurate and repeatable measurements, this Olsa Tools Digital Caliper includes an upgraded digital sensor that measures high-resolution metallic markings hidden behind the measurement strip. These upgraded features that surpass other low-grade digital calipers on the market, plus exacting machining on all the stainless steel surfaces, resulting in a reliable, professional-grade tool. Plus, it comes with a serialized calibration report for peace of mind.
The digital caliper's range refers to the maximum distance that it can measure. Calipers come in various ranges, from around 4 inches to 12 inches or more. When considering your best option, think of the maximum measurement you'll need to handle and pick a caliper with a range that accommodates it. This caliper comes with measurements of up to 6 inches (150 mm) and converts between millimeters, inches, and fractional inches.
Most dial calipers measure only one standard and most digital calipers only measure in inches and mm. However, Olsa Tools adds a third by also providing fractional inches which can be handy when working with Imperial-sized nuts and bolts.
In terms of durability, stiffness, corrosion resistance, and longevity, the right material is what matter the most. Calipers are made from stainless steel, carbon fiber, and plastic, but in general, the material should be chosen based on your needs.
For experienced settings and straightforward measurements, stainless steel or carbon fiber may be the best digital caliper material pick. While for hobbyist applications or occasional use, a plastic caliper may be sufficient.
At Olsa Tools, our products are built with professionals in mind. To guarantee efficient results, this digital caliper is constructed from hardened stainless steel which is suitable to perform nicely under professional applications while also being durable.
Several things facilitate the tool's operation. Here’s a list of them:
Many older-style calipers use 1.5V LR44 zinc button cells which are notorious for corroding and going dead in a short period of time. When shopping for new digital calipers, look for modern ones that use a 3V CR2032 lithium coin cell instead. Though they'll still run out eventually, the lithium batteries will last far longer than their zinc counterparts.
The most important thing when choosing the best digital caliper is selecting one that adapts to your needs and performs well under different applications. Considering the above-mentioned factors ensures you have a tool that is your loyal companion for years. The Olsa Tools Digital Caliper is here to help you solve your measurement need. Remember that it comes with a serialized calibration report, a limited lifetime warranty and a 100% satisfaction guarantee!

Are you looking for the best ratcheting wrench set for the job? They are major labor savers and have features that you simply can’t have with a regular wrench. You can find multiple types of ratcheting wrenches in the market that have 72, 100 and even 120 teeth; do these numbers really matter? We’ll answer this question in the following paragraphs and tell you the most important features to help you make the most educated choice when buying your ratcheting wrench set.
When looking for the best ratcheting wrench set for the job, the tooth count is a decisive factor, as this defines how far you need to swing the handle to engage the ratchet pawls and turn the fastener. In simple words, the greater the number of teeth this tool features, the less you’ll need to move the wrench to apply torque; delivering the most optimal results by helping you to remove or install the fastener quicker and with less effort.
A 36 tooth ratcheting wrench allows for an 10 degree swing arc. On the contrary, a 100 tooth ratcheting wrench only requires a 3.6 degree of swing arc that allows you to work on tight spots. The Olsa Tools upcoming ratcheting wrench set features not 100, but 120 teeth like this Olsa Tools Ratcheting Wrench Set so that you can have great control over the tool, requiring only 3.0 degrees of swing arc, meaning that you can tighten and loosen nuts and bolt in the tightest of spaces. Although you can find higher-tooth-count ratcheting mechanisms (e.g., with 144 teeth), this is commonly found in socket wrenches (or ratchets) instead of ratcheting wrenches. Does this mean you need both a socket wrench and a ratcheting wrench set? If you are a DIYer, I would suggest you wait and buy the tool you require until you get ready for the project. But if you’re a professional mechanic, it’s more likely that you require both sets of tools as you are constantly working on multiple projects.
The wrench design has two important features: the style of the head and the length of the handle. Both have their benefits; a flex head ratcheting wrench can be angled through 90 degrees or 180 degrees, depending on the brand, which allows it to get to those spaces with awkward angles; this is something that their cousins, fixed head ratcheting wrenches can’t do. However, under extreme torque application, it is not convenient to use a flex head ratcheting wrench; this tool has an extra failure point that can cause accidents and make you waste time.
For those projects when space is so limited and precise that you simply can’t reach the fastener with a regular ratcheting wrench, is where a stubby ratcheting wrench shines brightest. Thanks to the length of the handle, you can apply higher torque in the bare minimum amount of clearance. With Olsa Tools future sets, you'll have both, a 120 Tooth Ratcheting Wrench Set, and a 120 Tooth Stubby Ratcheting Wrench Set that come with fixed or flex heads. You can choose the best ratcheting wrench set that will help you work easier and faster in those situations where you need an elevated degree of precision.
Now that you know that 120 and 100 tooth ratcheting wrenches can help you work more precisely, does this mean that it is the best one? The answer is no. In the world of tools, it is all about preferences for different applications. Sometimes the best ratcheting wrench set is one with 72 teeth and on occasions, it is the 120 tooth ratcheting wrench set. The most convenient product helps you complete the job right with the minimum amount of effort. All of these Olsa Tools ratcheting wrench sets come in both metric and SAE sizes, and we are so confident about them that they are backed by a limited lifetime warranty, 100% satisfaction guarantee and a 90-day free return policy to give you more peace of mind with every purchase.

The design of the jaws makes them extremely adaptable and convenient, so much that there are many situations where they excel against other tools while providing a firm grip on fasteners of almost any size.
This article will describe how a pliers wrench works and what makes the best one for professional-grade environments.
Leverage makes it possible to grab things really tightly, and the lever mechanism of this pliers wrench is perfectly engineered to give the top-notch leverage you need. The tool features a fantastic compound leverage jaw mechanism with a leverage ratio greater than 10:1 which translates to a strong gripping power not present in conventional wrenches. This makes for a valuable tool for your most demanding jobs, capable of exerting up to 1000 lb of grip strength on a fastener.
If you’re looking for a tool that avoids causing damage or scratches to fasteners, without compromising strength and performance, you definitely want a pliers wrench. The flat, non-serrated jaws avoid causing damage to the fastener, delivering damage-free results so that you can work securely with any fastener material, whether it is bronze, copper, plastic, chrome, or any other delicate surfaces.
Pliers wrenches are a great choice to help you cover a lot of ground. They feature large jaw capacities making it possible for a single pliers wrench to replace a full set of metric or SAE wrenches when you’re on the go.
The extremely wide jaw capacity (up to 2" or 52 mm) proves useful for virtually any fastener you’ll come across in the workshop. You can easily grip, hold, press, or bend; it will be an invaluable addition to any tool kit!
No matter the challenge, the tool wins a permanent spot in most toolboxes. You know that it can get tiresome and frustrating to work on heavy-duty activities that cause your hand to become tense or painful while performing repetitive movements. With this pliers wrench, you won’t need to worry about that! The ergonomic, dual-material handles are perfectly built for constant everyday use, letting you work comfortably without causing hand strain.
Repositioning the width of the jaws is a breeze, the pliers-style motion makes it easy to adjust the wrench size without needing to fully remove the tool from the head of the fastener, making it quick and easy to reposition to the next bolt flank while tightening or loosening.
Another crucial factor when it comes to getting hand tools is looking for great quality materials, especially while working on a professional level.
The Olsa Tools pliers wrench is designed and built in Germany with professional use in mind. Using durable, heat treated Chrome Vanadium steel for quality assurance, the tool withstands the most challenging of projects for years.
If you enjoy finely-tuned tools that make completing task easier, this German-made pliers wrench is fitting for most of your projects. The more you work with the tool, the more impressed you’ll be.

You have 90 days to test the pliers wrench to see if the tool meets your expectations. Shop our pliers wrench below:
]]>Of course, you can find multiple types of crimping tools available, and each one is specially designed for different terminals. Here we’ll focus on the handheld ratcheting type, one of the most versatile models commonly preferred by professionals.
Wiring requires reliable connections, so you want to choose a tool that gives you reliable results. A calibrated tool like our ratcheting crimper, that releases only once the correct amount of force has been applied, helps ensure that every crimp you do will be secure. A dual-lever design is a great option when it comes to reliable connections, as it adds a force-multiplying effect and eases hand strain.
This Olsa Tools crimper includes this force-multiplying dual-lever feature for incredibly strong crimps. Just do the pull test, and you’ll see that the crimped terminals won’t come off!
The jaws on the tool are designed to work with insulated, color-coded (blue, red, and yellow) terminals for 22–10 AWG wires, making it easy to quickly identify the proper slot for your terminal.
Most low-quality wire crimpers end up with poor crimps, destroyed terminals, and overall bad connections, so getting a high-quality crimping tool that ensures reliable crimps is a must have for any serious professional.
The ratcheting component allows excellent control over the tool while you crimp the connection. The Olsa Tools crimper features a ratcheting action that makes it possible to pause mid-crimp while squeezing the handles; this allows you to reposition your grip, if necessary, and ensures your hands won’t get tired. Once you reach the correct amount of crimping force, the mechanism will automatically release, leaving you with a quality crimp.
Another convenient function of the ratcheting component is that it makes it easy to secure the wire connector in the jaws with just a small amount of force before introducing the end of the wire into the barrel, making your job easier.
The ergonomic handles with non-slip rubber grips help so your hands won’t get sore or slip while using the tool. Professional-quality tools are engineered to work faster and require less effort, whether you use the tool frequently or occasionally.
If you’ve ever used a low-quality crimper, you’ll know that these budget tools are frustrating to use and leave your hands sore when using them for multiple crimps. That’s a great reason to own a quality product with ergonomic handles like this Olsa Tools ratcheting crimper. When holding it, you experience excellent comfort for a secure grip during all of your projects. It truly is a world of a difference!
The extra wide hinge design ensures that your force will be applied exactly in the right direction, without bending sideways or slipping. The leverage multiplying mechanism also adds to your crimping experience by amplifying your gripping force.
Our professional-grade ratcheting crimper lasts longer than other low-grade crimpers on the market. On top of that, it has a Limited Lifetime Warranty, a 90-Day Risk-Free Return Policy, and a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee; an outstanding value at an affordable price! Shop our crimping tool below:

]]>We will dig into the breaker bar vs torque wrench topic by telling you some basic distinguishing features, resemblances, and use cases to know if they can be used for the same purposes.
Each tool is designed with a specific objective: breaker bars can "break" tight, frozen, and rusted fasteners free, which otherwise could not be undone by smaller tools like ordinary wrenches and ratchets.
When a ratchet can not do the job, a breaker bar is a go-to tool when you need higher leverage and torque power.
Torque wrenches, on the other hand, are engineered with a mechanism that exerts a specific amount of torque onto a fastener; which makes them the handiest tools when over-tightening situations are simply not an option; like while working with spark plugs, lug nuts, or for building or assembling engines.
It is fair to say that torque wrenches are super safe to use!
The likelihood of a torque wrench having a catastrophic failure, breaking, or stripping a bolt under maximum torque is minimum, but only if you don’t compromise their torque capacities.
Breaker bars are built to handle more generous torque limits, and their applications are far more intense.
Those tools are designed for heavier-duty tasks, which means you get increased chances of shearing off a fastener, causing injury, or having a catastrophic failure while performing hardcore tasks.
So, beware of managing the tool securely and using safety glasses while working on heavier-duty projects.
This Olsa Tools extendable breaker bar is built using industrial-grade steel that has been appropriately heat-treated, it can handle 450 ft/lbs of torque, an extremely powerful tool!
However, numerous breaker bars on the market are able to handle up to 2,000 ft/lbs. But the strength or physique of the person using the tool will also determine the amount of torque applied.
A manual torque wrench like this Olsa Tools split beam torque wrench is constructed with a maximum torque strength of 250 ft/lb.
They might not deliver the amount of torque as their breaker bars counterparts, but when it comes to control they definitely take the win.
Their design creates a loud click sound and splits at the joint when you reach the desired torque value, which gives greater control over the tool while helping you complete tasks accurately.
The torque wrench is accurate up to +/-4% across the entire torque range. What a precise tool!
This is probably the single most differential factor. Here, breaker bars beat torque wrenches thanks to the non-ratcheting mechanism. It is simpler and easier to produce, making them far less pricey and more “repeatable” as they’re more budget-minded.
Meanwhile, torque wrenches are significantly pricier because of their specialized inner mechanism, which is more accurate, precise, and sophisticated. For companies, this complex design calls for more time and better resources to produce the tool that best meets their customers’ needs. In simple words, a torque wrench goes a long way in terms of functionalities, and this is the main reason their price point is “less” affordable compared to other fastening tools.
This is a big no-no! We’ve explained now how to use a torque wrench and a breaker bar, both products deliver extremely professional results when used for their intended purposes. The problem with working on hardcore projects using torque wrenches is that you can push them easily beyond their capabilities. This can break the internals and damage the calibration of the wrench.
Considering their price, you don’t want to work on extreme heavy-duty projects with a tool that is supposed to be used for more precise applications. Plus, if you want to increase the longevity of your torque wrench, simply leave this to your go-to breaker bar.
Is not that either tool is “better” or “worse”, but simply that you’ll find yourself working on specific tasks where one is handier than the other. Does the project require a high degree of accuracy? A torque wrench is your best pick. Do you want to break loose very tight fasteners? Use a breaker bar. Professional mechanics have both as they are worth having for their convenience and ease of use.
The flex head type is the best to work in hard-to-reach spaces as it is designed to avoid the headache of working with annoying bolts and nuts located at awkward spots. The arc swing in this tool matters and determines how smoothly and quickly you are able to complete your projects. This is your guide to know what makes a tool truck quality flex head ratchet.
It is pretty easy to find 72-tooth fine ratcheting gears on the market, as they are the most common and come in handy for diverse applications. With this tooth count, you need to move the handle a total of 5 degrees to turn your bolts and nuts, but when it comes to working on tighter and more meticulous jobs, you have better options.
You buy flex head ratchets to work in spaces where your regular fixed-head ratchet can’t fit. When clearance is so limited, you barely have enough space to fit a ratchet, let alone move your hands smoothly.
That’s why finer or higher-tooth-count ratchets like these Olsa Tools 90-tooth ratchets prove to be more beneficial for this type of application, as you only require a 4-degree swing arc for each click, keeping the aggravation out of working in cramped spots.
The slimness of the head is also a huge determinant when getting into somewhere tight, and the heads of the 3/8-inch drive Olsa Tools ratchets are precisely machined to only 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) thickness, without sacrificing the strength of the gear. The smooth flexing head offers 180 degrees of range for ease of movement and time-saving results. We promise this new tool will exceed your expectations!
If changing tires, working with axle nuts, and other high-torque projects is what you frequently use your ratchets for, models with longer handles are a must-have. The Olsa Tools 1/2-inch drive flex head ratchet is two feet long to give you the perfect torque and control to break stubborn nuts and bolts free. The sealed heads without a push-button allows for a higher torque spec and prolong the life of the ratchet by preventing dirt and dust from getting into the internals.
You know how important it is to ensure that what you add to your collection of tools is made of the highest quality and with a level of craftsmanship to guarantee tool truck performance. A USA-made product will promise to give you excellent lifetime usage.
Our flex head ratchets have been fully engineered, fabricated, and assembled in the USA, using domestically-sourced materials, and have passed stringent quality tests to ensure they will last a lifetime. The industrial-grade Chromium Molybdenum (Cr-Mo) steel is heat treated to provide superior strength, then chrome plated and polished to perfection.
With these ratchets, you have the peace of mind that your money has been well-spent, and your new ratchets will last generations of heavy-duty projects. They exceed ASME B107.110-2012 torque specs by over 80%, which ranks them with the highest strength ratchets in the industry.
A limited lifetime warranty assures the ratchets you purchase will have guaranteed quality. When getting any hand tools from Olsa Tools, you get a lifetime warranty to deliver maximum value to your investment. On top of that, our risk-free return policy offers you 90 days to test it, and if for some reason the tool doesn’t meet your expectations, you can return it free of charge, and we will give you your money back, promised!
You should always opt for tools that are durable and withstand the busiest of workshops. When investing in your new USA-made flex head ratchets, you’ll get work companions that will never let you down. Choose between a full set (1/4, 3/8, 1/2-inch drive long ratchets, and a 3/8-inch stubby ratchet), or get them individually depending on your needs.
We’ll be telling you the most important insights about ASME and ANSI guidelines, which are the leading standards organizations in North America when it comes to hand tools; by the end of this article, you’ll understand why you should be getting products that meet these standards.
Standards are a set of guidelines and codes established by organizations; they set up the requirements to ensure that a product meets various predefined standards of strength, reliability, and safety. Whenever you see that a tool meets a certain set of criteria, it helps give you confidence that a manufacturer has paid attention to the industry standards. Tools that exceed those standards are built to go above and beyond the minimum requirements, which is a good indication that they are professional-grade quality.
For many tools, following the standards are voluntary; however, many industries require these certifications for safety’s sake, especially when it comes to tools measuring torque.
ASME stands for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a committee of experts in the field with a huge portfolio of standards across multiple categories including automotive products, piping, construction equipment, etc. Those professionals include manufacturers, mechanical engineers, testing laboratories, government regulatory agencies, universities, and more. These professionals work to determine industry standards based on real life experience from people in various industries.
In addition to developing standards, ASME accredits manufacturers to ensure that they are compliant with those guidelines and that workers are correctly qualified. ASME provides stamps to endorse companies and validate that their products are engineered following their specific guidelines.
A great benefit to having design standards is that it can also help guarantee compatibility between products from multiple manufacturers. With more than 100 countries recognizing ASME, this makes it possible for you to buy tools such as sockets and wrenches from basically any country and know that they will fit your parts if the manufacturer has followed the tolerances set out in the standards. By having clearly-defined design and manufacturing guidelines, you can be confident that a tool can satisfy (and even exceed) your expectations, no matter its origin. How great is that!?
Both organizations have the same goal of working towards standardization, but their function is different. ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, is a United States member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). As part of ISO, ANSI cooperates in the development processes for ISO standards.
In other words, ANSI does not write standards, but accredits standard developing organizations (ASME being one of them). The committee also has a more general role in overseeing the guidelines across various industries and ensuring the consistent development of different products and services.
ASME, on the other hand, is an ANSI-accredited group and creates documentation that is specific to the mechanical engineering sector.
When tools meet an ASME standard, it is designed to achieve the minimum level of performance required to do the job at hand. At Olsa Tools, we prioritize developing products that not only meet the industry standards, but go above and beyond what is “required” to deliver truly professional-grade tools.
Olsa Tools strives to exceed ASME & ISO torque standards by at least 30%-50% when it comes to our hand tools; some of our tools even exceed the required torque specs by over 80%! When a tool exceeds the standards, it means that it is even stronger, and built to a higher level of durability than the industry standard.
Below are some of our tools that exceed ASME & ISO standards:
Without a doubt, these standards are important to pay attention to for anyone looking for professional-quality products that can be passed down for generations. With Olsa Tools’ commitment to professional-grade products, you can be confident that your investment will be worth every dollar! Shop our professional-grade products below:
There is nothing like a helpful hand tool to get projects done smoothly and safely, but not all tools are designed to last. We will focus on tools that are designed for professionals so that you can get insights on how to choose a tool that will exceed your expectations.
High-grade tools are engineered to stand up to not only occasional use, but to withstand constant everyday use in a professional environment. To be considered “professional-grade” they generally meet three criteria: appropriate high-quality materials, conformance to industry standards, and quality assurance through standardized testing procedures.
When it comes to the durability of a product, the quality of the materials is a huge determinant. In order for a tool to perform correctly, hand tool manufacturers rely on a selection of the perfect materials. Metals such as Chromium Vanadium, Chromium-Molybdenum, SVCM steel, and high carbon steel, are most commonly used for various high-end hand tools and each have different properties which make them best suited to their particular job.
At Olsa Tools, we not only craft our products using those professional-grade materials, but on top of that we test all our products in professional, heavy-duty service shops. All of our hand tools meet (and typically exceed) ASME™ & ISO standards to ensure safety, reliability, productivity, and efficiency.
What is the point of getting a tool if you do not have the peace of mind that it will last you a lifetime? A lifetime warranty shows you that a brand is willing to stand behind its products. Combination pliers are one of the preferred multi-use hand tools among mechanics and professionals in other industries. The nose in combination pliers usually includes 3 sections: serrated jaws or tips designed for gripping, the pipe grip made for gripping round materials, and the cutter for cutting wire or small pieces of metal.
These pliers are called “combination pliers” because they combine these various features into one tool, making these pliers a perfect multi-use tool for every toolbox.
Popularized by frequent use by electrical line workers, these pliers are commonly referred to as lineman or linesman’s pliers.
Due to the shape of the tip, needle-nose or long-nose pliers offer greater precision compared to other types of pliers. As the name suggests, the long tip makes it easy to reach things you might not be able to reach otherwise. These types of pliers can help you with electrical work, jewelry, fishing jobs, or any other maintenance task where you need an elevated degree of precision. Similar to combination pliers, needle-nose pliers also have a cutting section located near the pivot point.
Diagonal cutting pliers (also known as flush-cut pliers, wire cutter pliers, or side cutters) are very common tools for electrical and automotive projects. They feature short jaws which deliver superb leverage while snipping through thick wires, nails, and screws. Olsa Tools’ heavy duty side cutters are designed with extra material around the heat-treated jaws to provide more strength and the ability to confidently cut through tough wire, even piano wire.
The design and efficiency of tongue and groove water pump pliers are perfect to tackle any task that requires working with nuts and bolts. They have a narrow jaw profile with multiple size adjustments to help you work on various projects, whether you need to reach deep into an engine bay or loosen a bolt in a tight spot. This tongue and groove water pump pliers set from Olsa Tools features 3 different sizes that can be smoothly and quickly adjusted up to 7 different positions so you can be confident that you will always have the right pliers for the job.
The most important thing to consider, besides choosing the right type of pliers for the job, is to look for a set that is manufactured from a strong material, such as Cr-Mo, and features heat-treated jaws to withstand all the jobs you’ll put it through. For quality assurance, all Olsa Tools pliers sets are made from SCM440 Cr-Mo Steel and precision heat treated to ensure your new pliers will be worth the investment.
Our pliers give you tool-truck quality but without the tool truck prices. If you’re looking for a professional-quality set of pliers at an affordable price, these tools are what you need! Shop our pliers and plier organizers with already marked down prices here:
Painted steel is the material our magnetic metal wrench holder is made out of and it serves multiple purposes. Powder coated steel provides a durable holder with an added protective layer to avoid scratches and rust. The coating process also gives the wrench organizer a uniform black color finish with an aesthetic appearance, perfect for your workstation.
Polypropylene, also known as PP, is a semi-rigid plastic material with versatile applications. It is a linear hydrocarbon polymer which resists cracking from stress and presents high chemical and heat resistance compared to other types of engineering plastics. While regular plastics melt at around 100°C, PP has a melting temperature of 160°C, which gives it the perfect toughness to hold your most-used tools without deforming. Our bestselling magnetic socket holders, hex bit organizers, and magnetic wrench holders are engineered from PP.
Aluminum is one of the lightest metals on earth, yet it is strong and flexible enough to be used for tool organizers. A key factor in what makes aluminum a top choice in modern fabrication processes is its corrosion resistance. Aluminum will naturally form a thin natural layer of oxide film that protects itself from any further damage. Contrary to steel where oxidation flakes off and continues to damage the part, the aluminum oxide layer acts like a shield that avoids any further oxidation of the aluminum.
What “anodized” refers to is the anodizing process that our aluminum socket rails go through to precisely control the creation of this protective aluminum oxide layer. After the rails are extruded and machined, they are submerged in an electrolytic bath, which involves a low-voltage electrical current that helps create a perfectly consistent layer of aluminum oxide which improves the wear resistance for a more durable socket rail. After anodization, the rails are then colored with dyes which bond to the porous surface of the oxidized coating which results in their bright colors that really make your workspace pop! Choose between seven different colors to match with your tools setup.
POM stands for polyoxymethylene, also known as acetal plastic. POM is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with key properties that ensure outstanding performance in terms of strength and flexibility for greater durability. It has a high strength-to-weight ratio, as well as chemical and corrosion resistance.
When compared to other thermoplastics, POM has a higher toughness, impact resistance, strength, and stiffness. Its semi-flexible nature makes it an ideal material for our magnetic screwdriver organizer.
Our magnetic screwdriver organizers have NdFeB, which is made from alloys of rare-earth elements and is the strongest type of permanent magnet in the world! With a tetragonal crystal formed of neodymium, iron, and boron, these rare-earth magnets deliver stronger and higher magnetic properties than ceramic magnets. All of these properties provide the ideal strength to withstand the heavy weight of your screwdrivers, ratchets, wrenches, and other tools.
Standing behind our Limited Lifetime Warranty is our top priority, that’s why the materials in our products are carefully selected for each application. Plus, they are professionally tested to ensure reliability under real-life circumstances. If you’re looking for a useful storage system that won’t break the bank, our tool organizers are what you need! Shop our tool organizers here:
Extractor wrenches and twist sockets (also known as turbo sockets or extractor sockets) make it much easier to get rid of rusted, decayed, or rounded-off fastener heads. Most of the time, these bolt extractors will never fail you, but there are some circumstances in which a tool might be handier than the other, so we will compare them to know the best option for your projects.
While turbo sockets have an internal thread design that can dig into 50% to 80% rounded-off bolt heads, the gripping power of the 6-point box end design in our bolt extractor wrenches puts the force almost directly on the middle of the bolt head flank. Not only does this help prevent further damage to the fastener, the bolt extractor can extract up to 85% rounded bolts and nuts. On top of that, since the design is engineered to keep the load off the corners of fasteners, these extractor wrenches can actually be used in normal circumstances and prevent rounding of bolts, whereas extractor sockets can only be used once a fastener is damaged beyond repair.
Unlike extractor sockets which only work to loosen a fastener, and typically cause further damage in the process; our extractor wrenches are able to both tighten and loosen fasteners, even if they have some damage or rounding to them. Imagine you’re working to finish a job on a tight timeline and have a slightly damaged bolt you need to undo: with an extractor socket you might further damage the bolt and waste precious time trying to source a replacement, but with Olsa Tools’ bolt extractor wrench you may still be able to reuse the same fastener and reinstall it securely until a suitable replacement can be found.
Picture this: you have to remove a hard-to-reach bolt on the underside of your intake manifold. Accessing that bolt is hard enough as-is! To make the situation worse, it is a rusted and rounded-off bolt. What would you do to get this bolt out?
Maybe you’re thinking of using a twist socket, but this might not be the best option. Using a twist socket will require working with a ratchet and some extra tools. With most twist sockets, you may first need a hammer to fit the socket into the fastener head. Then, the depth of the socket might be too deep to even allow for a ratchet or breaker bar in such a tight space.
Since ratchets and breaker bars add more height in addition to the socket, which is not good when you barely have enough space to move your hands, our angled offset extractor wrenches are a great replacement for twist sockets. The 45-degree offset makes it easy to get into tricky places while completing the job with the least effort. The set comes in Metric and SAE, as well as a long 0° offset version, giving you multiple options for a variety of tricky jobs.
There are moments when you need more torque or access into tighter areas. An bolt extractor socket would be a good fit, but only when you have enough space.
If you want a tool that gives you the extra torque you need in awkward positions, the long metric variant of these extractor wrenches has your back. The zero-offset design makes it easy to get into really narrow spaces where extractor sockets simply wouldn’t fit, while its long length gives outstanding leverage to break free stubborn fasteners.
Twist sockets and extractor wrenches come in handy when removing stripped bolts. However, for working in really tight or hard-to-reach areas, these extractor wrenches take the win.
The easy-to-use 2-in-1 wrenches exceed ASME standards for box-end wrenches, are polished to perfection, and chrome plated to protect them from rust for years to come. Additionally, they are covered by our limited lifetime warranty like all of our other hand tools.
Treat yourself to an bolt extractor wrench set today and the next time you run into a troublesome bolt, you’ll be prepared!
When referring to engine block materials, aluminum and cast iron are the most commonly used for passenger cars. This is why the debate between these metals always comes to the table. We are going to dive into this long discussion to understand the difference between aluminum vs. cast iron engine blocks.
While iron engine blocks dominated the passenger vehicles industry during earlier decades, aluminum blocks have been taking over in recent years. Both are perfectly engineered to deliver efficient performance due to modern casting techniques.
The type of cast iron used in engine blocks is gray cast iron, which has a graphite microstructure that delivers its characteristic gray color. Gray cast iron is classified into classes, classes 20 and 25 being the most popular for passenger car engine blocks, featuring a tensile strength of 20,000 to 25,000 psi.
On the other hand, aluminum engine blocks feature a mix of different alloys, the most commonly used alloys being A356 and 319, with a tensile strength of 10,000 to 14,000 psi
When it comes to weight, aluminum is more efficient. Aluminum is twice as light as iron, so you would imagine that aluminum engine blocks are twice as light too, but this is far from what happens in reality. The reason is that aluminum is not as strong as cast iron and car manufacturers compensate for this by building thicker walls in the engine block; which results in a heavier overall setup than you would expect with aluminum.
However, the difference in weight is still significant, reducing an average of 30% compared to its iron counterparts; this translates into more efficient fuel consumption and better acceleration time.
Of course, iron is stronger and stiffer than aluminum. It can withstand multiple sorts of deformation and delivers a longer lifespan, making it possible to better absorb noise and vibration than aluminum blocks.
But this doesn't mean aluminum is the worst choice for engine manufacturing because modern casting techniques create powerful and durable aluminum engine blocks. This engine block material goes through a more complex design with a lot of reinforcement; requiring stress saddles in the oil galley and oil pan area
Aluminum engine blocks have better heat expansion and reach operating engine temperatures faster than iron engine blocks. They can also transfer more heat away to the engine coolant. However, in overheating scenarios, an aluminum engine block is more prone to losing some of its original shapes, requiring major engine servicing if the damage is too problematic.
The best engine block material for repairing an engine depends on a variety of factors, including the type of engine, the intended use of the engine, and the budget for repairs. Cast iron is a traditional and reliable material that is still commonly used for engine blocks, aluminum is a softer metal and can be machined more easily. For example, if an aluminum engine block gets cracked and has to go through a repairing procedure, you can use Epoxy or a TIG welder to fill the crack.
However, engine rebuilt and repair can become a challenging task as it requires a lot of skill and energy, especially without the right tools. If you need to make this process easier and more efficient, at Olsa Tools you can find professional-grade engine repairing gears that are worth having inside your toolbox.
The question “what engine block is better?” can not be answered entirely as this usually comes down to the specific needs and requirements of the engine to determine the material that will deliver the best performance.
Although cast iron engine blocks can handle the greater horsepower, the rapid advance in engine design has made it possible to create well-built aluminum and even steel engine blocks that can handle nearly the same power as cast-iron blocks. So, in terms of horsepower, there’s no real performance benefit as both can be strong. The aluminum counterpart has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than mild metal which has helped to increase its use within the automotive manufacturing industry. Finally, if you’re a technician looking for tools to work on engines repair or engine swap projects, or any other mechanical task, you might want to take a look at our online store.
